To Veil or Not to Veil!

Many brides wonder if they should wear a veil or not! Well the answer is ...
No! You don't have to wear one, if you don't want to!
But that's because we believe in being comfortable on your wedding day! However, maybe you would love to wear a veil on your wedding day. Maybe it would finish off your look and make you feel more comfortable.
Maybe you'd like to follow the traditional theme of the veil: wearing it over your face, which is then lifted by your father before he officially, 'hands you over' to your groom, or by the maid-of-honor before your final, 'I will' vows, or the groom who will lift in time for, 'you may kiss the bride'!
As we say here at Calm Weddings, you must do what is right for you on your day!
Here's an except from, 'The Wedding Planning Book for the Deviant Bride'
"Wearing
a wedding veil - The wedding veil hides the bride’s
beauty and wards off evil spirits. Another explanation is that during the times
of arranged marriages the bride would cover her face until the groom had
committed to the marriage. Some religions still have arranged marriages; in
some Eastern ceremonies, both the bride and groom are ‘protected’ by a veil.
However, for those deviant brides having a
veil isn’t necessary. You may decide to have a veil but keep it attached to the
back of your hair rather than covering your face.
Today, many brides concentrate on their
hairstyle; sometimes they don’t want a veil as it doesn’t fit in with their
dress or hair ideas."
However, if you do decide to have a veil, we have great selection at Calm Weddings, all available in 7 different colours and 4 different lengths!
But how can you choose the right one for you?
Here's a few tips:
Here's a few tips:
- Firstly your veil must complement your dress rather than over-powering it: You may have lots of detail on your dress, therefore a simple veil would look more stunning. Or you may have detail down the back of your dress, therefore a shorter veil may look best. Think about the style of your dress, the colour of your dress and the detail on your dress to understand which veil would suit you best.
- Think about your hairstyle: Your veil is an accessory so needs to complement your overall look. If you're having your hair up, would a veil look better attached to the back of your hair? Or would a longer veil integrated into your hairstyle look better?
- Think about your location and the time of year you are getting married: You may desire a long cathedral style veil, however, if you're venturing into a churchyard, on a day when the weather has decided to unleash lots of wind and rain, your romantic ideal could turn into a muddy undesirable mess!
- Last but not least - make sure you're comfortable. There are many choices out there, choose the right one for you!
